| PSA Script: | Today, all Americans are feeling the pinch of high energy prices. And this winter, the cost of heating your home could account for nearly half of your energy bill. I’m Energy Secretary Sam Bodman with steps you can take to save money and make your home more energy efficient. First, give your home furnace or heat pump a check-up to ensure it’s running as efficiently as possible. Proper insulation in attic, ceilings, floors, crawlspaces, and exterior and basement walls can save 30 percent on home energy bills. And insulate the heating ducts, even in unheated areas of your house. Finally, installing a programmable thermostat will ensure you don’t pay for energy you aren’t using. Program the thermostat down to 65 degrees for eight hours a day to reduce your heating bill by up to 10 percent. You have the power to make a difference. You can reduce your home energy bills and help our nation reduce its energy use. For more energy efficiency tips, please visit our website at www.doe.gov or call toll free at 1-877-337-3463.
